| Sketch of parameswara |
A popular account puts the Prince as out hunting one day and while resting under a tree, one of his dogs cornered a mouse-deer or 'pelandok'.
when he saw a white mouse-deer or pelanduk kick one of his hunting dogs. He was so impressed by the mouse-deer's brave character that he on that spot, decided to build a city at there. He asked one of his servants the name of the tree under which he was resting and, being informed that the tree was called a Malaka,. Thus, Melaka is the name to the heroic city. The year back then was 1400.

As time went on, Melaka grew bigger and bigger and became more and more prosperous. Parameswara, incidentally, was the first Malay prince to become a Muslim and inevitably, Islam became the religion of Malays in the Peninsular (now West Malaysia).
Sadly, Under Sultan Mansur Shah (1456 - 1477), Melaka's fame and wealth not long after caught the attention of the expansionist Europeans with the Portuguese who are becoming the first to arrive and eventually conquering the land. They were led by Alfonso d'Albuquerque.
Soon after that, Melaka are continuously were rule by other country such as British and Japanese.
Independence did not arrive until 1957, when anti-colonial sentiment culminated in a proclamation of independence by His Highness Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, Malaysia's first Prime Minister.
